Britain is known as a ‘sea faring nation.’ However, where do we stand now with our maritime environment changing so rapidly? ‘Time and Tide’ explores British coasts and fishing communities and the growing pollution of plastic in our oceans. The project is inspired by traditional fisher people work and knitwear such as aprons, lace shawls and also fishing paraphernalia. It aims to repurpose waste plastics such as discarded packaging and fishing line into functional aspects of knitwear design. This has been developed through melting and trapping materials within the knitwear. A few selected images. (2019)
